Gifted & Talented Referral Virtual Q&A Session

New Kent County Public Schools will host a Gifted & Talented Referral Virtual Q&A Session on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, from 6–7 p.m. The session is open to all NKCPS parents and guardians of students in grades K–12.

Families are invited to join at any point during the hour to ask questions and learn more about the referral process from NKCPS Gifted Resource Teachers. The session will be held via Google Meet at https://meet.google.com/raz-hjcp-jsg.

NKCPS is currently accepting Gifted & Talented referrals through January 30th, 2026. For more information about the Gifted & Talented Program, please visit the NKCPS Gifted & Talented Program webpage.

Reminder: SEAC Virtual Meeting on 2/18
 

Families, staff, and community members are invited to join our upcoming New Kent County Public Schools Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meeting. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 from 6-7 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting. Click the button below to join.

Rescheduled: School Board Meeting Now on 1/20

The New Kent County School Board Meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, will now be held on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, in the New Kent Historic Courthouse Boardroom at 6:00 p.m. 

The Closed Session will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be available virtually on The New Kent Schools - School Board Meetings YouTube channel. 

The Agenda for the meeting is available on BoardDocs.

NKCPS Announces 2027 Teachers of the Year

New Kent County Public Schools is proud to announce its 2027 Teachers of the Year, recognizing five exceptional educators whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment to students exemplify excellence across the division: Ms. Amy Leonard of George W. Watkins Elementary School, Ms. Sabrina Dunn of New Kent Elementary School, Ms. Katie Freeman of Quinton Elementary School, Mr. Patrick Kimrey of New Kent Middle School, and Mr. Josh Bell of New Kent High School. 

On Friday, December 12th, 2025, division and school administrators surprised each honoree at their respective schools to celebrate their outstanding contributions to teaching, leadership, and school culture. Together, the 2027 Teachers of the Year embody our division’s mission to engage, empower, and elevate every student while fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments. 

NKCPS and GWES leaders officially recognized Ms. Amy Leonard as the 2027 NKCPS Division Teacher of the Year on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025.

NKCPS Celebrates NKSO Student Citizenship Award Winners

New Kent County Public Schools celebrated four outstanding students who received the New Kent Sheriff's Office Kip Kephart Foundation Citizenship Award for demonstrating strong character and meaningful contributions to their school communities. The annual award, presented by the New Kent Sheriff's Office, honored eighth grader Madison Taggart from New Kent Middle School and fifth graders Melody Tooley from George W. Watkins Elementary School, Morgan Evans from New Kent Elementary School, and Chandler Vaught from Quinton Elementary School. Each student was recognized at their respective school in ceremonies attended by their families, New Kent County Sheriff Lee Bailey, Kip Kephart Foundation President Steve Rula, school principals, and NKCPS Superintendent Dr. Brian J. Nichols, and received a check from the foundation, a certificate from the Sheriff's Office, and had their names added to a permanent plaque in their school building.
