2021 Beginning of the Year Parent Resources

We are excited for the beginning of a new school year!

Back to School forms: Back to School forms are available online this school year. By the close of business Monday, August 30, 2021 you will receive an email with directions and your students' unique link to access and complete the online forms. When you visit the forms application for the first time, you will be prompted to create an account.  This account will allow you to securely save your work and come back at a later time if necessary.  This will also allow you to associate all of your students to the same parent account.  You can use your email address or cell phone number as a username for your account. If you have more than one child, it is recommended that you submit the Returning Student Registration for all of your children one after another – this will allow you to copy over shared family information, which will save you time.

Parents needing assistance will also have the opportunity to complete required forms electronically on-site at upcoming open houses and/or back to school nights. Please contact your child’s school for additional instructions if you do not receive an email by Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

All transportation routes will be available after 12 p.m., starting on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Please visit the NKCPS Web Query page on or after September 1st to find your child's bus information. Anytime you need to make a change to your child’s transportation, please fill out a Transportation Request form, and follow the guidelines as listed. If you move, please remember to update your school with the updated information.

If you have any questions regarding transportation, please call the transportation office at (804) 966-9670.

Online School Payments: Online School Payments is an easy way for families of middle and high school students to pay school fees electronically. If you have not used Online School Payments before, you will need to set up an account. Please note that there is a convenience fee to use the service, which pays for the vendor’s costs. Additional information about paying fees will be coming from your school in the upcoming weeks.

School Breakfast and Lunch: For the 2021-22 school year, school meals are free for all students. Parents are still encouraged to complete a free/reduced meal application to become eligible for other programs.  You can apply for free and reduced-price meals using an online application available at

School Nutrition Services makes it easy to pay for meals, check menus, and more online (grades K-12).

mySchoolBucks is available for managing your students’ cafeteria accounts.  You can check balances and purchases, get low-balance alerts and set up automatic payments.  Additionally, see what’s on the menu at your school with MealViewer.  Please review the Back to School Letter from School Nutrition in PowerSchool for additional information.

Take mySchoolBucks wherever you go!  Make payments on-the-go, check balances, view purchases, and more!  Download the mySchoolBucks app on Google Play or iOS!  Click here for additional information.

Families interested in applying for the national free-and-reduced-lunch program may access the application here.  Families completing this form should also complete the waiver to share information with other programs, which can be found here and will also be sent home at the beginning of the school year with all students.

PowerSchool: PowerSchool gives families of students in grades 2-12 easy access to class grades, attendance information, and student schedules, while K-1 shows attendance history.  The online tool comes in two versions: one for students and one for parents and guardians called PowerSchool Parent Portal.

On Monday, August 30 at the close of business, PowerSchool Parent Portal access will be available for account creation.

While students can log in using their NKCPS usernames and passwords, parents and guardians must create their own accounts.  Parents who used the system in 2020-21 will be able to log in with their existing usernames and passwords.

Parents can also access PowerSchool using apps on their iOS or Android mobile devices.  The app will request a school access code which is NMSN.

Schoology: Schoology is our learning management system and will contain instructional materials and activities for students.  Parents will receive information from their child’s school about how to create a parent account.

School Messenger: School Messenger ensures efficient communication between schools, parents, and staff regarding general announcements and emergencies.  Please make sure that you have updated all of your contact information with your child’s school as general information is updated via PowerSchool.  If you would like to receive text messages text Y or Yes to 67587.
