This esteemed award is granted to schools where students demonstrate exceptional proficiency on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test, which measures students' understanding of key personal finance concepts.

The Blue Star School designation is given to schools where a significant percentage of students achieve passing scores on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test, a central component of the W!se Financial Literacy Certification program. This program provides educators with resources, including a curriculum aligned with national and state standards, to prepare students for success in the world of personal finance.

At NKHS, the Economics and Personal Finance (EPF) course is a graduation requirement for all students. The course focuses on essential money management skills, record keeping, banking, and broader topics such as economics, insurance, and credit. The EPF curriculum is designed to help students develop strong financial planning skills for both personal and career-oriented goals.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our students and the exceptional work of our teachers who prepare them to excel in financial literacy,” said NKHS Principal Ms. Allison Strickland. “Our students’ achievements on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test showcase the strength of our EPF program and our commitment to equipping them with skills for lifelong success.”

Students in Mr. Ryan Parry's EPF class learn financial concepts through Bohnanza, a strategic card game where players trade and plant beans to earn coins. The game reinforces key EPF concepts like supply and demand, opportunity cost, and resource management through hands-on gameplay.

W!se President and CEO Mr. David Anderson celebrated the achievements of New Kent High School and other honorees. “We are thrilled to recognize these exceptional Blue Star Schools for their commitment to financial literacy,” said Anderson.
