Jordon Named NKCPS Teacher of the Year

New Kent County Public Schools is proud to announce that Ms. Leigh Anne Jordon, a dedicated biology teacher at New Kent High School, has been named the 2026 NKCPS Division Teacher of the Year.
NKCPS Superintendent Dr. Brian J. Nichols praised Ms. Jordon's impact, stating, "Ms. Jordon's unwavering dedication to her students has not only inspired those in her classroom but has also set a standard of excellence throughout our division. Her passion for education and commitment to fostering a love for learning exemplify what it means to be an outstanding teacher."

Before her teaching career, Ms. Jordon earned a master’s degree in counseling and worked as a mental health counselor, grant manager, law enforcement coordinator, and kindergarten aide. Her diverse professional background enriches her approach to education, fostering strong relationships and a deep understanding of her students’ needs.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Jordon is actively involved in the NKCPS community. She serves as the secretary of the New Kent Wresting Club Board, liaison for the Comprehensive Instructional Program State Consortium for biology, and the school’s liaison for the My Princess Project, a nonprofit organization that helps students who might not otherwise be able to afford them receive prom and Homecoming dresses. Ms. Jordon also serves as the NKHS teacher representative on the NKCPS School Health Advisory Board, as a new teacher mentor, and is the former co-leader of the Prevention Project, a program focused on human trafficking prevention.

Her colleagues describe her as a teacher who consistently inspires her students to strive for excellence and success. She frequently opens her classroom to provide extra help during the enrichment period, lunch, and after school. “Ms. Jordon inspires excellence in the classroom and is committed to student growth and success,” stated NKHS Principal Ms. Allison Strickland. “She builds relationships with students and our Trojan community, implements innovative teaching practices, and leaves a lasting impact on all who have the privilege of learning from her.”

Ms. Jordon’s impact is felt not only in the classroom but also in the lives of her students and colleagues. “Ms. Jordon really cares about her students and works tirelessly to ensure their success both in and out of school,” shared a colleague. “She is a talented teacher who uses a variety of methods to reach all types of learners and is a positive leader among the faculty and staff.”
As the NKCPS Division Teacher of the Year, Ms. Jordon will represent the district in the Regional Teacher of the Year competition.
