The Mission of the New Kent Educational Foundation is to channel our community’s resources to promote and enhance educational opportunities for the students and staff of New Kent Schools.
Message From the President
The New Kent Educational Foundation is culminating a year of significant growth regarding our educational initiatives for New Kent Schools and public awareness of our mission. As quoted above, the board works with the same enthusiasm as former Secretary of Labor, William Brock, for education and its importance. It is my pleasure to serve as president of this outstanding group. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this dedicated and talented group of individuals.
This year’s fundraising efforts were exceptional. The year started with our 2nd Annual Strike it RICH for Education Bowl-A-Thon. With the help of AMF providing a fantastic venue, our sponsors, and our teams, the Bowl-A-Thon raised over $17,000 to support our students and staff. In March we held our 4th Annual Basketball Tournament with seven local teams formed by community sponsors. This event exceeded its fundraising goal. Lastly, we enjoyed strong growth in our annual drive for donors held in May.

While this year was incredibly successful, the coming year looks to be even better. In April we introduced the Foundation’s Giving Tree of Donors for sponsors of Auditorium Chairs in our new high school. This rare opportunity has been met with much enthusiasm. It is not often that we have the opportunity to celebrate a new high school and create a funding event for programs benefiting the high school. With 700 leaves to sell, the Giving Tree has a great deal of potential. The Foundation is very optimistic.

This year the Foundation funded 15 educational grants, awarded two $1,000 scholarships and was a major contributor to the student production of West Side Story. Also, the Foundation contributed to the success of the 2007 Celebration with the Godspeed event in November. The Foundation board members will continue working to make a positive impact on New Kent County Schools with the continued strong support from area businesses and individuals.

On behalf of the New Kent Educational Foundation, I want to thank the School Board, Dr. Geiger, teachers and staff for all their support of our events and programs. A special recognition also goes to Lynn Sodat, our Executive Director. Without her dedication, vision, and sense of humor, we would not achieve the same level of success. Lastly, much thanks to all of our sponsors, contributors, board members and friends for their support and assistance during the past year. I look forward to working together to show our students and staff new opportunities for learning.
