Program ServicesGrades K-2All students are heterogeneously grouped. Classroom teachers are trained in the identification and needs of gifted students. Acceleration and enrichment activities are provided. The resource teacher works with the classroom teacher in a collaborative manner, and the pull-out option is utilized. Grades 3-5Identified students are cluster-grouped with teachers trained to meet their academic, social and emotional needs. Acceleration and enrichment options are available. Services are provided chiefly through the collaborative teaching efforts of the classroom teachers and the resource teacher. The pull-out option is also utilized. Grades 6-8Identified students are cluster-grouped on teams with trained teachers. Acceleration is provided based upon individual needs and generally occurs in math and foreign language. Students receive differentiated work in other curriculum areas. The resource teacher works with the classroom teacher in a collaborative manner, and the pull-out option is also utilized. Grades 9-12Identified students are offered a range of courses, including Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment. Students also have the option of attending an academic year Governor's School, participating in an independent study, and/or working in a mentorship program. Resource teachers provide co-curricular and extra-curricular enrichment opportunities. They assist students in educational planning as well. At all levels students are encouraged to advance their knowledge and skills in their areas of giftedness.The curriculum is differentiated through various approaches to content, process, and product. The cluster teachers and the gifted resource teachers work cooperatively to this end. Three gifted resource teachers are employed as full-time teachers of the gifted. They are selected and evaluated according to division policy. Parents and community members are encouraged to become and remain actively involved in the education of the gifted learners.
