School Based Programs: Pre-K through Grade 12
All schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education, and comply with the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, the Virginia Standards of Quality, and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
The elementary school program emphasizes reading, writing, and mathematics at all grade levels, along with instruction in science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and health.
The middle school program incorporates grade-level teaming, interdisciplinary instruction, and an exploratory program.
In addition to the standard curriculum, New Kent High School offers a program of honors and advanced placement course work. A vocational education program provides many opportunities for students. Elective programs offer course work in the performing and visual arts, drama, and foreign language. The high school operates on an even / odd block scheduling program.
Gifted and enrichment services are offered throughout the K-12 program. A comprehensive special education program is available throughout the division and offers specialized services to students with identified disabilities. Technology is incorporated in all schools. |

At
the February 2, 2009 School Board meeting, the Board approved an amended
Reduction In Force (RIF) policy. The Board amended this policy in response to
the recent announcement of the Governor's Proposed Budget in late December
2008 calling for drastic reductions in funding for public education. School
divisions across the Commonwealth have all moved to review and update their
existing RIF policies in response to the current economic climate.
