Our personnel department accepts applications on an on-going basis for classroom teachers at all grade levels, PK - 12 and Special Education. Applications are held in an active file for one year from the September following receipt.

Our teachers are offered a competitive package. In addition to an annual salary, the county pays your entire contribution to the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System, which includes life insurance benefits, a $2,377 Master's supplement, credit for recognized teaching experience, and competitive fringe benefits.

In order to have a complete personnel file, you need to submit the following items:

  • Completed and Signed Application
  • Copy of Transcripts
  • Letters of Recommendation or Evaluations
  • Copy of Teaching Certificate
  • Copy of National Teacher Exam Scores or Praxis (if applicable)

    We ask that you submit these items to be considered for a personal interview when a position becomes available in your endorsement area. You do not have to send additional leters of recommendation if your college placement file is up-to-date and includes three reference letters.

    Applicants for all positions must completely fill out and sign school board application. Do not write "see resume" on application.

    Criminal background checks will be conducted on all employees.

    Citizenship verification will be obtained upon employment as well.

    Applications are kept on file for one year as of September 30. We will accept a written or verbal request for reactivation.

    The School Board contributes annually to each employee's hospitalization program and offers both personal leave ( 2 days annually ) and sick leave ( 10 days annually ). Among other employee options are a sick leave bank, limited conversion for sick leave to personal leave, and direct deposit.
